If you had a Qantas flight cancelled during the pandemic years, there’s a good chance you’re owed money - and the clock is now ticking to claim your share of a $105 million settlement.
Law firm Echo Law has been running a class action on behalf of customers whose domestic or international Qantas flights were cancelled between 2020 and 2022, including cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You can read the full details on the official Echo Law Qantas class action page. After years in the Federal Court, Qantas agreed to settle the claim for $105 million on 13 March 2026, with no admission of liability. The settlement still needs the court’s tick of approval, with an approval hearing set down for 13 October 2026.
What the class action is about
The case (Federal Court proceeding VID650/2023) is led by applicant Marianne Haverkort against Qantas Airways Limited. It centres on the enormous number of flights Qantas cancelled during the pandemic and how the airline handled the credits and refunds owed to affected passengers.
With more than one million potential group members, this is one of the largest consumer class actions Australia has seen against an airline - and if you held a ticket on a cancelled Qantas flight in that window, you may be one of them.
Who is eligible?
You’re likely a group member if you held a ticket for a Qantas domestic or international flight that was cancelled between 2020 and 2022. Over a million people fall into this category, so it’s well worth checking - even if you eventually received a credit or travelled on a rebooked flight at the time.
