Velocity Points Booster 40% Off: Buy Velocity Points From Just 1.404 Cents Each

Velocity is currently running a Points Booster Early Bird offer with 40% off the usual price points, bringing the best rate down to 1.404 cents per point on the biggest bundle. If you are short a small number of Velocity Points for an imminent redemption, this can be a useful top-up offer.

The short version: Points Booster is useful when you are only a small amount short of a reward seat or upgrade. It is usually a poor choice for speculative buying, because Velocity points can be expensive if you are paying cash just to stockpile them.

What Is Velocity Points Booster?

Points Booster lets Velocity members buy extra points directly into their account. According to Velocity, you can buy between 1,000 and 250,000 points per calendar year, using a major debit or credit card.

The official Velocity page also notes that:

  • points can take up to 72 hours to arrive
  • purchases are non-refundable
  • transactions are processed outside Australia
  • you need at least 1 Velocity Point in your account to buy points
  • members with a 0 point balance cannot purchase Points Booster points

Velocity Points Booster Pricing After 40% Off

Velocity uses a sliding price table, so the larger bundles are better value per point than the smallest top-ups.

Some of the current price points are:

  • 1,000 points for AU$36
  • 10,000 points for AU$325
  • 30,000 points for AU$787
  • 100,000 points for AU$2,340
  • 250,000 points for AU$5,850

With the 40% off offer applied, those become:

  • 1,000 points for AU$21.60 = 2.16 cents per point
  • 10,000 points for AU$195.00 = 1.95 cents per point
  • 30,000 points for AU$472.20 = 1.57 cents per point
  • 100,000 points for AU$1,404.00 = 1.404 cents per point
  • 250,000 points for AU$3,510.00 = 1.404 cents per point

So the biggest bundle drops from AU$5,850 to AU$3,510, which brings the cost right down to 1.404 cents per point.

When Buying Velocity Points Can Make Sense

Buying points only really stacks up when you already have a redemption in mind.

It can make sense if:

  • you are just a few thousand points short of a reward seat
  • the award you want is available now, but you need a small top-up
  • the value of the booking is higher than the cash you would spend on the points
  • you are trying to keep points alive, since buying points can refresh account activity

It usually does not make sense if:

  • you are buying points without a specific redemption
  • the reward seat you want is not available
  • you are comparing the purchase cost against a cheap cash fare

The Main Catch With Buying Points

The biggest issue is that buying points does not guarantee you the reward you want. If the seat is not there, the points just sit in your account.

That is why Points Booster is best treated as a top-up tool, not a points-earning strategy.

Bottom Line

If Velocity’s Early Bird Points Booster banner has caught your eye, the deal is worth a look only if you already have a near-term redemption lined up. For a small gap in your balance, it can be the fastest way to get over the line.

For everyone else, the cash price per point is still high enough that you are usually better off earning Velocity points through flights, partner offers, or card sign-up bonuses instead.
