Jetstar has operated the first commercial passenger flight from Western Sydney International Airport (WSI), marking the start of regular passenger services at Sydney’s new 24-hour airport.
Flight-tracking data records JQ362 leaving its gate at WSI for the Gold Coast at 11:07am AEDT on Sunday 25 October 2026, around seven minutes behind its scheduled departure time. The sold-out service was followed by the airport’s first commercial arrival, Jetstar flight JQ363 from the Gold Coast, and an evening departure to Melbourne.
Where Jetstar is flying from WSI
Jetstar plans to operate up to 24 return services a week from Western Sydney International:
- Up to 14 return services a week to Melbourne
- Daily flights to the Gold Coast
- Three return services a week to Brisbane
The Gold Coast route was initially planned to operate four times a week, but Jetstar has increased it to daily services following strong demand. Flights use Airbus A320 aircraft with up to 188 seats, and the airline says its WSI network will offer around 460,000 seats a year.
What it means for Sydney travellers
The new flights give people in Greater Western Sydney and surrounding regions another airport option alongside Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport. For travellers who live or work closer to Badgerys Creek, that may mean a simpler trip to the terminal as well as a choice of domestic schedules.
Western Sydney International operates around the clock, unlike Kingsford Smith Airport, which is subject to a nightly curfew. That flexibility is expected to support further domestic and international growth as airlines add services.
More routes are planned
Jetstar has said it has bid to operate a Western Sydney to Bali service, though that route has not yet been confirmed. QantasLink is also scheduled to begin WSI passenger flights to Melbourne and Brisbane on 28 March 2027, operating four times a week on each route with Embraer E190 aircraft.
Before booking, check the airport code and departure airport carefully: Western Sydney International is WSI, while Sydney Kingsford Smith is SYD.
