Jetstar undercuts both full-service carriers on every one of the 28 shared routes. The gap is widest on the east coast to Perth runs, where Jetstar sits $80 to $120 under the other two - Melbourne to Perth is $183 on Jetstar against $279 on Virgin and $299 on Qantas. It’s narrowest on Adelaide to Melbourne, where Virgin and Qantas both match at $99 against Jetstar’s $72. Darwin to Sydney is the one route where Qantas ($249) comes in under Virgin ($269).
Jetstar “Get Onboard” Sale - from $34
Jetstar is Qantas Group’s low-cost carrier, and this sale is the broadest of the three: over 250 routes across Australia and New Zealand plus a solid international spread. These are seat-only fares, so checked baggage, meals and seat selection are all optional extras.
The general sale runs until Monday 24 August 2026, unless fares sell out sooner.

Perth to Bali (Denpasar) at $144 is the standout - that’s $13 less than Jetstar’s own Adelaide to Perth domestic fare in the same sale. New Zealand is well covered out of the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, and Perth to Phuket at $199 is worth a look if you’re chasing Thailand.

Virgin Australia “Getaway Sale” - from $49
Virgin Australia is a full-service domestic carrier, and this sale offers both Lite (carry-on only) and Choice (checked baggage, seat selection, more flexible changes) fares depending on the route. That matters when you compare against Jetstar: a Lite fare plus a bag can land close to a Choice fare, so check both before you book.

Virgin’s real strength here is regional Queensland and Western Australia - Mackay, Rockhampton, Emerald, Gladstone, Broome, Karratha, Port Hedland and Newman are all in the sale, which is coverage Jetstar simply doesn’t have.

Qantas “Australia Red Tail Sale” - from $99
Qantas is billing this as its biggest sale of the year, with over 2 million seats released across the entire domestic and QantasLink network. It’s the most expensive of the three at the headline level, but it’s also the only one with a flat $99 floor applied across a long list of regional routes, and the travel window runs furthest out - all the way to August 2027.

Qantas is where you go for the routes nobody else flies. Kangaroo Island, Port Lincoln, Dubbo, Orange, Tamworth and Coffs Harbour are all at the $99 floor, and the deeper QantasLink outback network is covered too - Barcaldine and Blackall from $159, Weipa and Horn Island from $169, Longreach from $179, Mount Isa from $189, and Broken Hill and Kalgoorlie from $199. It’s also the only one of the three with fares into Western Sydney International (WSI) from Brisbane and Melbourne at $99.

Which Sale Should You Book?
- Pure price on a trunk route - Jetstar, every time. It’s cheaper than both full-service carriers on all 28 shared routes, and by $80 to $120 on the east coast to Perth runs.
- Travelling with checked baggage - compare properly. A Jetstar fare plus a bag and a seat can land within a few dollars of a Virgin Choice fare, which includes both.
- Regional Queensland or WA mining towns - Virgin Australia. Mackay from $105, Gladstone from $149, Emerald from $155, Kalgoorlie from $175, Broome from $189, Newman and Port Hedland from $269 and Karratha from $275. Jetstar flies none of them.
- Regional NSW, SA or far-north Queensland - Qantas and QantasLink. Kangaroo Island, Port Lincoln, Dubbo, Orange, Tamworth, Weipa and Horn Island have no low-cost alternative.
- International out of Australia - only Jetstar has international fares in this batch, and Perth to Bali at $144 is the pick.
- Booking a long way ahead - Qantas. Its travel window runs to 1 August 2027, about five weeks further out than Jetstar (27 June 2027) or Virgin (22 June 2027).
