Colombo is a new Jetstar route, and these are direct flights - no connection to plan around, and no self-transfer risk to price in. They’re one-way fares, so they suit an open-jaw trip, a one-way leg of a longer Asia run, or anyone heading to Sri Lanka and coming home a different way. If you are carrying on from Colombo or feeding in from a domestic flight on a separate booking, check the minimum connection time at Melbourne Tullamarine (MEL) or Colombo Bandaranaike (CMB) against your itinerary first - on separate tickets a missed connection is your problem rather than the airline’s.

About Colombo and Sri Lanka

Colombo is Sri Lanka’s commercial capital and the usual arrival point for the island. The city itself is worth a day or two - Galle Face Green for the evening sea breeze and street food, the Pettah bazaar district and its Red Mosque, the Gangaramaya Temple, and the Colombo National Museum for a bit of context before you head out of town. Most travellers use it as a launch pad: the southern coast and the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort are a couple of hours away, the hill country around Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Ella has the tea estates and the train ride people come for, and Sigiriya’s rock fortress sits in the cultural triangle to the north.

Seasons matter here because the island has two monsoons. The west and south coasts, Colombo included, are at their best roughly December to March; the east coast runs the opposite way and is better May to September. Official information is at Sri Lanka Tourism.

The Fares

The floor is $348 one-way direct, and it isn’t a single isolated date - it turns up from late April 2027 and then repeats through most of May and into early June. Late 2026 is the next best window, with September starting at $358 on the 12th and October sitting in a $382-$420 band across most departures.

December is the month to avoid unless you have no choice: fares climb through it to $1,314 and $1,330 around the peak, and January doesn’t drop back under $500 until the second half. February and March are steady in the $406-$489 range with a $372 outlier on 16 March, and July 2027 settles at $702 for most dates.
